Polish defender Michał Rosiak has completed a permanent transfer worth over one million euros from Śląsk Wrocław to Dutch club FC Twente.
The 20-year-old right-back was officially presented at the De Grolsch Veste stadium on Wednesday after signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2029-30 season, with an option to extend for an additional year.
FC Twente, based in the city of Enschede, compete in the Eredivisie, the top flight of professional football in the Netherlands. The club plays its home matches at the 30,000-capacity De Grolsch Veste stadium in Overijssel.
With Rosiak entering the final stages of a contract that was due to expire in June 2027, the deal represented the last opportunity for Śląsk Wrocław to receive a transfer fee for the player. Śląsk confirmed the departure on social media, using Rosiak's nickname Rossi to thank him for his contributions and wish him good luck in the Eredivisie.
Rosiak had established himself as a regular starter for Śląsk Wrocław under head coach Ante Simundza, playing in all six matches of the team's campaign before making his final appearance in a fixture against Legia Warsaw.
Arsenal academy background and promotion campaign
Rosiak joined Śląsk Wrocław on a free transfer a year ago after departing the youth academy of Premier League club Arsenal in London. His arrival was seen as a key reinforcement for the Wrocław side following their relegation from the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Polish football.
Śląsk, one of the most prominent clubs in Lower Silesia, set an immediate objective to secure promotion back to the Polish top flight. Rosiak played a pivotal role in achieving that goal during his first season in senior football, missing only four matches throughout the campaign.
The defender scored a crucial goal in the decisive match against Polonia Bytom that secured Śląsk's return to the Ekstraklasa. Rosiak later explained that he had held talks with other clubs but chose Śląsk because of its status as a major team with a clear goal of promotion, describing his debut senior season as an exemplary success.
Managerial praise and European ambitions
FC Twente head coach Erik ten Hag praised the signing, stating that the Dutch club had been tracking Rosiak for some time and had hoped to bring him to Enschede earlier. Ten Hag highlighted the defender's technical ability, noting that Rosiak excels in building up play from the back after developing through the entire Arsenal academy system.
Rosiak expressed his excitement about the move, stating that he was eager to meet his new teammates at a club with a rich history and high ambitions. The defender added that the transfer was an essential step forward in his career and emphasized that he was looking forward to gaining valuable experience in European competitions.
Following Krzysztof Kurowski to Enschede
Rosiak is the second young defender to move from Śląsk Wrocław to FC Twente in recent months, following in the footsteps of 19-year-old left-back Krzysztof Kurowski.
Kurowski was also an important figure in Śląsk's successful promotion push before deciding in June not to extend his contract, which expired at the end of last season. After securing his move to Twente, the teenager made his Eredivisie debut on Sunday, August 30, coming on as a substitute in a match against SC Cambuur.
