The Minnesota Wild defeated the Washington Capitals 5-1 in an away NHL regular season game in Washington, according to Russian sports outlet Sovetsky Sport.

The visiting Wild built an early lead with two first-period goals before pulling away with three strikes late in the third period. Russian forwards Maxim Shabanov, Kirill Kaprizov and Danila Yurov all scored during the closing minutes to seal the road victory.
Quinn Hughes opened the scoring for Minnesota just four minutes into the contest. Michael McCarron extended the lead only two minutes later, beating the Washington defence in the sixth minute to put the hosts in an early two-goal hole.
Washington cut the deficit late in the second period when Justin Sourdif scored in the 40th minute. That proved to be the Capitals' only goal of the game, as the home side failed to find an equaliser in the final frame.
Minnesota settled the outcome with a devastating flurry in the final moments of regulation time. Shabanov struck in the 58th minute to make it 3-1, before Kaprizov and Yurov each scored in the 60th minute to complete the rout.
Milestone goal for Kaprizov
Kaprizov celebrated an important career milestone with his late tally, scoring his 15th goal of the season and reaching 500 career points in the NHL. The Russian forward has served as Minnesota's franchise cornerstone and principal offensive weapon since moving to North America, consistently ranking among the most dangerous wingers in the sport.
Yurov also provided a welcome boost for the Wild, scoring his first points in seven games. The forward has now accumulated five goals and six points across 16 appearances this season as he establishes his role in the lineup.
In contrast, Washington captain Alex Ovechkin endured a difficult outing against the Minnesota defence. The veteran logged 13 minutes and seven seconds of ice time and produced two shots on target, but failed to record a point. The scoreless appearance extended Ovechkin's goal drought to eight consecutive games.
Ovechkin has captained the Capitals since 2010, leading Washington to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018. The Russian winger is considered one of the greatest goalscorers in hockey history, holding numerous club and league scoring records.
Standings and conference playoff picture
The win gives Minnesota four victories from their last five matches. With 23 points, the Wild sit second in the Western Conference standings as they continue a strong run of early season form.
For Washington, the loss brought an abrupt end to a three-game winning streak. The Capitals remain on 16 points, leaving them in 10th place in the Eastern Conference table and searching for greater consistency.
Each NHL club plays an 82-game regular season schedule divided between home and away fixtures. Teams earn two points for a victory, with conference rankings determining which eight clubs from each side qualify for the postseason Stanley Cup playoffs in the spring.
