Mohsen Rezaei, an advisor to Iran's supreme leader, has been appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Press TV reported citing the president's office.
Rezaei replaces Mohammad-Bagher Zolghadr, who received the post of political advisor. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei announced Zolghadr's appointment on the social network X, addressing him as a respected brother and doctor and stating that he appointed him in light of his valuable experience.
Revolutionary Guard Background
Rezaei previously led the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from 1981 to 1997. Zolghadr served as his deputy during that time.
The appointments follow the release of initial video footage showing Khamenei in his post as Iran's supreme leader, sitting surrounded by several people and conversing with them.
