Moscow to stay dry Saturday before brief Sunday rain

Moscow residents can expect dry, warm weather on Saturday before brief afternoon rain arrives on Sunday, the city’s chief meteorologist said.

Tatyana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist at Moscow’s meteorological bureau, told RIA Novosti that the weekend weather in the capital would be determined by the periphery of an anticyclone.

On Saturday, August 1, she said there would be no precipitation, with a northwest wind of three to eight metres per second. Temperatures would range from a morning low of 13 to 15 degrees to a daytime high of 24 to 26 degrees.

On Sunday, August 2, brief rain was expected in the second half of the day. Morning lows would again reach 13 to 15 degrees, while daytime temperatures would climb to 26 to 28 degrees.

Lyudmila Parshina, head of a laboratory at the Hydrometeorological Centre, said the anomalous heat would not last beyond the upcoming weekend. Muscovites were earlier urged to bring the swimming season to a close.
