Moscow’s emergency management authority has warned residents of intense heat over the first weekend of August, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach 29 to 31 degrees Celsius on August 1 and 2.
Authorities urged Muscovites to drink more water, avoid overheating, wear hats, and choose light-coloured clothing. They also advised against using open flames during the dry conditions due to fire safety concerns.
No precipitation is expected in the Moscow region on Saturday, though a light rain is possible on Sunday evening. In the western suburbs, rain could begin as early as morning with thunderstorms possible, according to a forecaster identified as Ilyin.
The coming weekend will likely be the last notable heat for Moscow residents. Yevgeny Tishkovets, a senior specialist at the Fobos weather centre, said the average monthly temperature for August across central Russia was expected to hold at around 21.5 degrees Celsius, in line with seasonal norms.
