Nintendo has cut the price of its new blue and yellow Joy-Con 2 controllers for the Nintendo Switch 2, which are now selling for 60 euros at Spanish retailer El Corte Inglés, a 25% discount.
The controllers carry a recommended retail price of 90 euros. El Corte Inglés normally lists them at 80 euros, and the price is higher still at Nintendo's official store and other authorized sellers, according to the report. The color scheme is limited to the joysticks and the grip rather than the whole controller surface, and the sale price marks the lowest the controllers have been offered at, since discounts on them are rare.
The Nintendo Switch 2 became the fastest-selling video game console in history within days of its launch, following the success of its predecessor. Like the original Nintendo Switch, it is a hybrid device that can be played in handheld mode or connected to a television, and Nintendo has redesigned its controllers alongside the more powerful hardware.
Unlike the controllers for the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5 DualSense, the Joy-Con 2 can be used independently of each other, meaning a single pair lets two people play at once.
A bigger, more ergonomic design
The Nintendo Switch 2 is larger than the original Nintendo Switch, which required Nintendo to redesign the Joy-Con 2 controllers. Their larger size makes them more ergonomic, making handheld play more comfortable, addressing one of the main complaints about the original Joy-Con, though the best experience reportedly still comes from adding a grip case.
Nintendo has also added a new button, called the C button, which gives access to GameChat. The service is designed to improve the multiplayer experience by letting players connect during gaming sessions from their own homes, hear each other's voices, and even see each other's faces if a camera, either Nintendo's official model or a compatible USB-C camera, is connected to the console.
A new mouse mode
The biggest new feature in the Joy-Con 2 is mouse mode. When placed on a flat surface, the controllers function like a computer mouse. This opens up new possibilities in games such as Civilization VII and Cyberpunk 2077, though the experience varies depending on how individual developers implement the feature. One of the games that makes the best use of the function is Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
Battery life and vibration
The Joy-Con 2 controllers offer up to 20 hours of battery life per charge, with a full charge taking about 3.5 hours. They also include HD Rumble 2 for a more immersive experience.
