European basketball champion Olympiacos will officially present plans for the new Peace and Friendship Stadium at the Thessaloniki International Fair on Saturday, September 5. A Thessaloniki architectural firm will showcase the project through a 3D video during an event featuring stadium management, coordinators, and board chairwoman Christina Tsiligiri.
Management aims to transform the land surrounding the basketball arena into the largest sports park in Attica. The facility already hosts beach volleyball, handball, and tennis sections following financial support from Amateur Olympiacos, after management took over unleased buildings and parks in 2019.
Investment plans for Piraeus
Corporate investors, Olympiacos BC, and local clubs have established a 40 year plan to upgrade Piraeus into a hub for entertainment and sports. The project focuses on green energy and outdoor redevelopment, including pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths, shops, and modern athletic venues.
The vision builds on a strategy developed over the past seven years to revive unused public sports infrastructure through partnerships. Officials cited the Ano Liosia Olympic Center as an example of this approach, noting how an unutilized facility was granted to AEK and converted into an active sports arena.
