Orlen Wisla Plock won the Polish handball Supercup on Saturday evening, defeating rivals Industria Kielce 27-24 at the Atlas Arena.
The victory in the season opening match gave the Plock side their second Supercup trophy in three years. Wisla broke away in the final minutes of a tense contest after the teams traded the lead throughout the night.
The match began with a tight contest as neither team could establish a clear advantage early on. The score remained tied or separated by a single goal until Karalek put Kielce ahead 13-11, giving Industria the first two-goal lead of the match. Wisla responded immediately, scoring two unanswered goals to bring the teams level at 13-13 at half-time.
Tight battle in the second half
Kielce regained the upper hand early in the second half when Yusuf scored to put Industria back in front. Vlah then extended the advantage to two goals for the Kielce club. Wisla fought back once more through goals from Dawydzik and Kosorotow to draw level. A goal for 18-18 marked the 14th tie of the match.
Wisla established their first two-goal advantage of the game in the 48th minute. Industria quickly reduced the deficit, but only briefly. Bjerre then scored to give Wisla a three-goal cushion, the widest gap of the match. Plock held their lead through the final minutes to secure the 27-24 victory.
Rivalry history and next fixtures
The Polish Supercup has officially launched the domestic handball season since 2024. This year marked the third consecutive final between Wisla Plock and Industria Kielce in the rivalry known in Poland as the Holy War. Wisla won the inaugural edition before Kielce claimed the trophy last year, with Plock now reclaiming the title.
Both clubs will now turn their attention to the start of the domestic league season. Industria Kielce will begin their league campaign against MKS Kalisz, while Supercup champions Orlen Wisla Plock will face MMTS Kwidzyn.
