Sami Ouaida has returned from an ankle injury and pushed back against suggestions he used it to pressure Nijmegen into allowing him to leave, ahead of the club’s Champions League third qualifying round match against Olympiacos.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder played in a friendly against Sevilla and scored with an impressive finish, signalling he is gradually putting his injury problems behind him.
Ouaida said he did not think many people believed him, but that he knew his own body better than anyone. He said he was not someone who got injured often and that it had simply been bad luck, adding that the timing had also been unfortunate.
The remarks were a response to reports and comments claiming he had used the injury as an excuse to push for a transfer.
