PAOK and Barcelona are locked in a race to sign Daniel Theis, a 34-year-old German center and world champion, after financial and administrative problems at his French club Villeurbanne threw the European basketball market into disarray.
Villeurbanne's inability to guarantee agreed contracts has opened the exit door for several high-profile players. Of those now available, Theis has become the most hotly contested, with the Greek side PAOK, based in Thessaloniki, and Spanish giant Barcelona both drawn into the pursuit.
According to Spanish sports outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is giving very serious consideration to a move for the German center, putting the two clubs in direct competition for his signature.
