Comedian Peter Kay disrupted a live BBC news weather forecast on air after making a guest appearance to promote a charity project, stepping in front of meteorologist Molly Brewer during her live bulletin.
Footage of the disruption was published on Instagram following the broadcast, during which the British comic took over the screen and interactive controls in the studio.
Kay had been invited onto the news programme to announce a charity concert in Blackpool scheduled for next month. The event aims to raise money for a vital medical operation for a sick child.
Chaos on live television
Following Kay's interview segment, weather presenter Molly Brewer prepared to deliver the national forecast. Kay addressed Brewer directly, telling her that she knew what was coming next and urging her to proceed with the broadcast.
As Brewer began outlining weather conditions across the United Kingdom, Kay suddenly walked into the shot and stood before the large studio display map. He sat down on the floor and used his hand to obscure the spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire.
When animated rain appeared on the map, the comedian pretended to shield himself from the downpour, shouting that rain was pouring down. Brewer attempted to maintain her composure, confirming to viewers that heavy thunderstorms were indeed possible the following day.
Interacting with the weather screen
The disruption escalated when Kay seized the studio remote control and switched the display map to a picture of a rainbow. Brewer reclaimed the device, restored the national weather map, and resumed her report.
Kay continued to distract the presenter by tracing his finger across the graphics on screen, asking her questions, and cracking jokes throughout the segment.
Summing up the forecast, Kay remarked that people had been fortunate to enjoy clear blue skies and sunshine every morning, but added that autumn had arrived and it was time to turn on central heating. Brewer smiled and praised his commentary, saying she could not have put it better herself.
