Mexican winger Orbelín Pineda sustained a serious leg wound requiring nine stitches after a brutal late challenge from Atlas forward Duk during the third round of the Apertura 2026.
Monterrey, managed by Matías Almeida, won the match 2-0. Pineda, a former AEK player, was substituted in the 75th minute after absorbing the blow from Duk, who is described as Cape Verdean.
The incident occurred during a challenge after the ball had already gone. Duk had his leg extended and caught Pineda below the shin, producing a severe wound.
After the referee reviewed the action using VAR, Duk was sent off.
