Poland scrambled fighter jets on August 3, 2026, after a Russian Il-20 aircraft flew over the Baltic Sea, Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on X.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said the defence ministry detected the aircraft 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Leba. He stressed that Polish airspace was not violated.
Earlier Il-20 sighting
On July 14, Kosiniak-Kamysz had also reported that Polish fighter jets were scrambled over another Il-20 flight above the Baltic Sea. He said that aircraft was flying in international airspace about 30 kilometers from the Polish coast.
The defence minister also ruled out the possibility of a Russian attack on Poland, saying no such forecasts exist.
