Russian President Vladimir Putin said remote work allows people living in small towns to work effectively, according to RIA Novosti. He made the comments while answering questions at a meeting with urban environment leaders and urban planners working on developing cities in the Russian Far East.
Putin said modern technology makes it possible to work effectively from remote locations rather than only in cities of millions of people.
Balancing growth and population retention
Putin said this approach allows for a balanced solution between developing major economic centers and keeping people in the regions, but stressed that workers in these areas need proper living conditions. He said that no matter how much money is invested in developing the economy, people will only work on a rotational basis and not live permanently in these areas without a decent living environment.
Economic sciences doctor Nadezhda Kapustina had previously said that continued interest in remote work stems from businesses saving on office equipment, as well as workers, especially those in Russian regions far from the capital, wanting higher salaries without relocating to major cities.
