National Police officers in Quito arrested Ecuadorian citizens Jose Alfredo L. R. and Ivan Dario T. S. during security operations in Calderon parish. The arrests occurred under the Quito Protection Plan, which deployed 2,000 police officers and 2,000 Armed Forces members to counter crime in the city.
Officers made the first arrest on the night of Thursday, August 6, following a vehicle pursuit. Police spotted Jose Alfredo L. R. driving a suspicious Nissan car that had active theft alerts and signaled for him to stop. He refused, leading to a chase that ended at the intersection of Carapungo and Garcia Moreno streets, where police apprehended him with a firearm and criminal evidence.
Stolen phone signal leads to home raid
The second operation took place on the morning of Friday, August 7, in the California Alta sector. Police investigators tracked a stolen mobile phone broadcasting a satellite location signal to a residence between Rio Alambi and Rio Zarumilla streets.
Officers entered the house in flagrante delicto and arrested Ivan Dario T. S., who had a 2025 criminal record for receiving stolen goods. Inside the home, police seized 27 mobile phones, including 26 of doubtful origin, alongside two laptop computers and a security camera. Authorities transferred both suspects to the Judicial Police for further investigation.
