A song by Sam Fender and Olivia Dean has broken a seven-decade record to become the longest-running UK number one single in chart history.
“Rein Me In,” released in June 2025, spent 19 weeks at the top of the UK chart, according to the Official Charts Company. The weeks were not consecutive.
The track overtook “I Believe” by Frankie Laine, which had held the record for 73 years after spending 18 weeks at number one in 1953.
Fender, who received an award to mark the record, said he was lost for words and thanked Olivia Dean and fans for making the song such a success. He said he could not believe they had broken the UK record.
Fender wrote “Rein Me In” for his album “People Watching,” which was released in February 2025.
