A 26-year-old repeat offender was detained in the Moscow region after stealing four cans of baby formula from a store immediately after his release from court.
The regional press service of Rosgvardia, the National Guard of Russia, reported the incident to news outlet Lenta.ru on September 29, 2026.
Law enforcement personnel responded to the scene after an automated alarm signal was received at a centralized security monitoring station. The signal was triggered at a guarded chain store located on Sharapovsky Drive in the region.
Officers arriving at the commercial store established that a male visitor had taken four cans of infant formula from the display shelves and walked past the checkout counters without paying. Rosgvardia officers promptly intercepted and detained the suspect inside the shop.
Theft following court release
Authorities identified the suspect as a 26-year-old visiting man who had already accumulated multiple prior criminal convictions. Investigators discovered that he had committed the new shoplifting offence immediately after being released from a courthouse.
Following his arrest, the man confessed during questioning that he had taken the four cans of infant food with the intention of selling the stolen items to turn a quick profit.
