Drivers in Lavelanet, in the Ariege department of southern France, face several days of disruption as road strengthening works on the RD 117 continue until August 7.

The Ariege Departmental Council is overseeing the project, which covers a stretch of road between reference points 12+953 and 13+592. The work has been contracted to the firm Jean Lefebvre Rescaniries at a total cost of 124,792 euros including tax.

A first phase ran from June 8 to 26. The current phase began on July 30, when resurfacing of the bituminous concrete wearing course was carried out overnight to limit inconvenience to road users, according to a statement from the Departmental Council.

The remaining work, including the application of new road markings, will take place under alternating single-lane traffic controlled by signals.

The Departmental Council urged drivers to remain alert near the construction zone and to check updated traffic conditions on the Inforoute09 website. Oversight of the operation is handled by the District des Pyrenees Cathares.
