Russian prosecutors are seeking 930,000 rubles from a married couple after the husband beat his then-girlfriend so badly she had to be airlifted to the city of Chita, according to Telegram channel Baza.
Baza reported that the incident began when the woman bit her partner on the nose while he slept after a party. The man responded by beating her severely, rupturing her pancreas.
The man was subsequently convicted and sentenced to three years in prison. While he was incarcerated, the woman recovered and the two married in the prison facility. He was released on parole after two and a half years.
Prosecutors are now demanding the couple repay 930,000 rubles that the state budget spent on the helicopter transport. The couple is contesting the claim.
