Santorini will host a summit of National Anti-Doping Organizations from Central and Eastern Europe on October 12 and 13, 2026, bringing together representatives from 26 countries along with the leadership of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The summit is one of the most significant international gatherings dedicated to fighting doping in sport, and its arrival in Greece underscores the role the country has come to play in global efforts to protect clean competition.
Four themes on the agenda
Discussions in Santorini will center on four areas that officials say will shape the future of global anti-doping policy.
- Implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code, with emphasis on the challenges and best practices involved in harmonizing national legislation
- Funding opportunities from the European Union and how they can be used to strengthen national anti-doping programs
- Technological innovation, including the use of artificial intelligence in data analysis, prevention and the detection of suspicious patterns
- Complex issues surrounding Therapeutic Use Exemptions and the management of case results
Sports minister and WADA president to attend
Greece's Minister of Sport and the European Union's representative to WADA, Yannis Vroutsis, will attend the summit, alongside WADA President Witold Bańka.
WADA is the global body that coordinates anti-doping policy, testing standards and research across international sport. Bańka, a former Polish sports minister, has led the organization since 2020.
EOKAN director calls it recognition for Greece
The head of Greece's National Anti-Doping Organization, known by its Greek acronym EOKAN, Dr. Grigoris Leon, said hosting the summit was another important international recognition for Greece and for the organization.
Leon said the presence of Sports Minister Vroutsis, representatives from 26 countries, WADA's leadership and other senior institutional figures created a strong platform for cooperation, the exchange of expertise and the shaping of common policies to protect clean sport.
He added that EOKAN invests systematically in international outreach, education and new technologies, and said the organization was proud to host the summit in a location of global renown such as Santorini.
