Olympic gymnastics icon Simone Biles has sparked speculation over a potential comeback at the Los Angeles 2028 Games after sharing photos from inside her training gym.
The 29-year-old Team USA star, who has not competed since winning three gold medals and one silver at the Paris 2024 Summer Games, posted the images to her Instagram story on Thursday. The photos showed Biles returning to the World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas, the elite training facility owned by her parents, Ron and Nellie Biles, where she developed into the world's top gymnast.
Inside the gym, her snap captured a foam pit, various balance beams, a trampoline and a banner overhead that read: "The World is Yours!" The image immediately fueled speculation that the seven-time Olympic gold medalist could be gearing up towards a return to competition when the Summer Olympics return to the United States in 2028.
A second photograph shared by Biles showed the inside of her personal gym locker, which featured beauty and wellness products, a hand-drawn poster, a polaroid photo, gymnastic equipment and a mini goat stuffed animal. Biles captioned the post: "Just how I left it."
The photos immediately raised eyebrows among fans, who took to social media begging the gymnastics superstar not to get their hopes up over a potential comeback. Biles has remained coy on the subject of returning to the sport for another Olympic cycle on home soil.
Olympic record and LA 2028 prospect
Speaking at the Ready25 conference in Australia last year, Biles dropped a tantalizing clue when asked directly if she would consider competing at the Los Angeles Games. The American superstar offered a simple response: "Never say never."
It had been widely believed that Paris would mark the end of competitive career for Biles, serving as a crowning send-off after bringing her overall Olympic medal tally to 11. While Biles has spoken in the past about the intense mental and physical demands required for Olympic preparation, she has never fully ruled out continuing her career.
If Biles does decide to compete in Los Angeles, she would make history as the first American gymnast to appear in four Olympic Games. The 2028 Games in Southern California will mark the first time the Summer Olympics have taken place in the United States since 1996.
Life away from gymnastics
During her break away from competitive gymnastics, Biles has spent time cheering on her husband, Jonathan Owens. Owens, a professional American football safety in the NFL, is currently gearing up towards his first season playing for the Indianapolis Colts.
Biles has also spent her time off discovering new activities. Speaking to People magazine last November, she revealed that she has taken up horseback riding and ice skating in her free time while stepping back from elite gymnastics.
