Stamatia Skarveli has qualified for the hammer throw final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
The 30-year-old Greek champion produced her qualifying performance with her final attempt, throwing the hammer 68.49 metres to secure 12th place. It marked the first time in her career that she reached the final of a major championship.
Karydi misses out in triple jump
Spyridoula Karydi, 25, coached by Giorgos Pomaski, failed to reach the triple jump final. She opened with a strong first jump of 14.03 metres, close to the qualifying mark, then recorded 13.54 metres in her second attempt.
Romania's Eleana Talos took the 12th and final qualifying spot instead. Talos matched Karydi's best distance but had a superior second jump, which decided the tiebreak in her favour.
