Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film of 2026 after earning $1.155 billion at the international box office in its first seven days in cinemas, Variety magazine reported.
The superhero feature, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, dethroned Pixar Animation Studios' animated sequel Toy Story 5, according to the trade publication. Toy Story 5 had held the top spot for 2026 after accumulating $1.067 billion worldwide following its theatrical release in June.
Holland and Zendaya return to lead the latest installment of Marvel Studios' long-running superhero franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland stars as Peter Parker, the high school student turned web-slinging hero, while Zendaya plays his classmate and love interest MJ.
The rapid box office surge is built on a series of record-breaking milestones for the film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day set an all-time record for North American theatrical previews by grossing $72 million, surpassing the previous record of $60 million set by Marvel's 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame prior to its opening weekend.
North American box office records
The film went on to record the largest theatrical debut in US box office history, collecting $360 million during its opening weekend in domestic cinemas. Globally, the production generated $932 million over its opening period, marking the second-largest worldwide debut of all time.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the adaptation reached $400 million in North American ticket sales in just four days, becoming the fastest film in history to cross that milestone. On a global scale, the movie surpassed $1 billion in six days, making it the second-fastest film to reach the milestone behind Avengers: Endgame.
Cretton took the helm of the film after previously directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel Studios. The North American box office figures reflect combined ticket sales across cinemas in the United States and Canada.
Comparison with No Way Home and ensemble cast
The box office figures outperform the initial run of the preceding entry in the series, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Released in 2021, No Way Home grossed $50 million in North American previews before earning more than $260 million in the US and $587 million globally in its opening weekend, eventually finishing its theatrical run with $1.921 billion worldwide.
Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the ensemble cast for Spider-Man: Brand New Day includes Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Batalon reprises his franchise role as Ned Leeds alongside MCU newcomers and returning stars including Ruffalo, who portrays Bruce Banner, and Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle.
