Stephen Bear jailed over sex offender notification breach

Former British reality television contestant Stephen Bear has been sentenced to 24 weeks in prison after breaching notification requirements for registered sex offenders, according to a report by the BBC.

Bear failed to inform police officers of his travel plans when leaving the country for an overseas holiday and neglected to notify authorities upon his return. Individuals convicted of offenses against sexual integrity are legally required to declare all foreign travel to law enforcement.

While vacationing in Brazil, the former television star published multiple photographs and videos across social media platforms. In the posts, Bear boasted about his location and claimed that police officers would be unable to catch him.

Appearing in court, the television contestant pleaded guilty to breaching his notification conditions, resulting in the 24-week custodial sentence.

Previous court convictions and legal history

The sentence follows a separate legal ruling in early August, when Bear was handed a 16-month prison term for violating a restraining order. That order explicitly forbade the reality star from sharing or publishing any content relating to his former partner, Georgia Harrison.

In 2023, a British court sentenced Bear to one year and nine months in prison after convicting him of disclosing private sexual photographs and film without consent. The court found that Bear had uploaded explicit footage of himself having sex with Harrison to social media without her consent.

Background on offender regulations and public figures

Stephen Bear is a British reality television personality who rose to prominence after appearing on several popular UK television series, including winning Celebrity Big Brother in 2016 and featuring on MTV shows such as Ex on the Beach.

Georgia Harrison is a television personality who gained recognition appearing on British reality series including Love Island and The Only Way Is Essex before advocating publicly against non-consensual image sharing.

Under United Kingdom law, registered sex offenders are subject to notification requirements managed by local police forces. These regulations require offenders to inform police of any planned overseas travel before departure and to register their return after traveling abroad.
