SV Wehen Wiesbaden opened their Third Division season with a 1-3 home defeat to Preußen Münster, a result that left players and coach Daniel Scherning furious over a disputed penalty in the 76th minute.
With the score at 1-1, referee Assad Nouhoum awarded Münster a penalty after Montell Ndikom went down in the box. Replays could not clearly show why he fell, and the Third Division has no VAR system to review the call. Ndikom converted the penalty himself.
Scherning said it was a clear dive and an absolute wrong decision. New Münster coach Thomas Wörle, a former Kickers Offenbach player, agreed it was too little for a penalty. Wehen Wiesbaden captain Tarik Gözüsirin called the decision a catastrophe.
Goalkeeper error opened the scoring
Wiesbaden had conceded first when goalkeeper Florian Stritzel stepped over the ball, effectively gifting Münster the opening goal, a moment Scherning described bluntly. Wiesbaden also benefited from a questionable penalty of their own, which they converted for their only goal against Münster.
Positives despite the loss
Scherning said his team was the better and more dominant side over the course of the match. He praised the performances of three new signings, Max Brandt, Sinan Karweina and especially Philipp Hercher on the right side, saying he was satisfied with all three. He said his team lacked efficiency in front of goal despite creating several good chances. Wehen Wiesbaden play away at newly promoted FWK Würzburg on Friday at 7pm.
