TSV Steinbach Haiger rescued a 1-1 draw against promoted VfR Aalen in the Regionalliga Südwest on Saturday thanks to a late Jahn Herrmann equalizer.
Playing at home on the second matchday of the campaign, Steinbach fell behind in the 36th minute when Maksimovic opened the scoring for the visitors. Herrmann struck in the 80th minute to earn a point in front of 830 spectators after trailing 1-0 at half-time.
Regionalliga Südwest forms part of the fourth tier of German football. The result prevented a home defeat for Haiger-based Steinbach on the second weekend of regional division action.
Eintracht Frankfurt II defeat
Eintracht Frankfurt II remain without a point this season after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Stuttgarter Kickers. A crowd of 1,208 watched the home team fall behind to two early goals.
Glessing opened the scoring for Stuttgarter Kickers in the sixth minute before Frauendorf doubled the lead in the 13th minute. Frankfurt produced a first-half fightback through goals from Keito Kumashiro in the 20th minute and Jonas Bauer in the 31st minute to draw level at 2-2 by half-time.
Stojak scored the decisive goal for Stuttgarter Kickers in the 71st minute to secure all three points. Frankfurt's reserve side, the U21 team of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, could not find another equalizer.
Seven goal thriller in Fulda
SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz also ended the weekend empty-handed after falling to a 3-4 defeat against SV Sandhausen. The home side suffered a narrow loss despite a second-half response in front of 1,420 spectators.
Sandhausen built a 4-0 lead before half-time. Leonidis scored in the 11th minute, Korzuschek added a second in the 20th minute, Schulz made it three in the 31st minute, and Mamutovic scored the fourth in the 45th minute.
Roko Ivankovic started the recovery for Fulda-Lehnerz in the 45th minute to cut the half-time score to 4-1. Milian Habermehl scored in the 50th minute and Emmanuel Elekwa added a third in the 90th minute, but the dramatic comeback fell just short.
The second matchday had started on Friday evening, when Kickers Offenbach recorded a 2-0 victory away at relegated side Ulm.
