A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the Russian region of Tuva 30 kilometers west of the village of Sagly in the Ovyursky District.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the republic reported on its website that underground tremors occurred at 3:00 a.m. local time, or 11:00 p.m. Moscow time. According to the department, local residents did not feel the tremors and sent no reports to officials. All infrastructure facilities continue to operate as normal.
Recent earthquakes near the Kuril Islands
Earlier on August 5, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Kuril Islands. The ministry noted that tremors of that strength can cause minor damage near the epicenter, but no destruction or casualties were recorded.
A few days before that event, seismic tremors with a magnitude of 4.6 were recorded off the coast of the Southern Kurils. That epicenter was located near the Japanese island of Hokkaido, 100 kilometers south of the village of Malokurilskoye on the island of Shikotan.
