Two women died in separate coastal incidents in Pieria and Chalkidiki on September 9, according to statements released by the Hellenic Coast Guard.
The first casualty occurred in the morning when an 81-year-old Hungarian national was pulled unconscious from the sea at Neoi Poroi beach in Pieria.
Bystanders and emergency responders provided immediate first aid on the shore. An ambulance operated by the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB) transported her to the Litochoro Health Centre, where doctors formally declared her dead.
Morning drowning in Pieria
The 4th Port Department of Platamonas, operating under the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, opened a preliminary investigation into the drowning.
Investigating officers requested a forensic autopsy to be conducted by the Forensic Service of Thessaloniki to determine the cause of death.
Neoi Poroi is a seaside resort village situated in the regional unit of Pieria along the Thermaic Gulf. Litochoro, which houses the receiving health centre, lies nearby at the foot of Mount Olympus in northern Greece.
Second fatality in Chalkidiki
A second drowning occurred around noon on the same day off the coast of Fourka beach in the Municipality of Kassandra, located in Chalkidiki.
The victim, a 78-year-old woman, was pulled unconscious from the water by people at the scene.
Rescuers administered initial first aid before an EKAB ambulance transferred her to the Kassandreia Health Centre, where medical staff confirmed her death.

The 2nd Port Department of Nea Moudania, which functions under the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki, launched a preliminary investigation into the Kassandra incident.
Port officials ordered a second autopsy at the Forensic Service of Thessaloniki as part of the formal inquiry.
Fourka is a coastal village on the western shore of the Kassandra peninsula, the westernmost headland of Chalkidiki. Nea Moudania serves as a central port hub for administrative and maritime operations in the region.
