The United Nations human rights office called on all sides in the Ukraine conflict to take every possible measure to protect civilians after a Ukrainian drone attack on the Gelendzhik area killed four children. Spokeswoman Marta Hurtado said the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights was collecting and verifying reports on the drone attack in Arkhipo-Osipovka, and said the office also had information about a separate attack in Moscow region on the morning of August 4.
UNICEF also responded, citing a Ukrainian drone strike near a playground in Belgorod region that killed a minor girl. The organization said children have the right to safety wherever they live and play, and that attacks killing and injuring children must stop.
Deaths in Arkhipo-Osipovka
Seven people died in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, near Gelendzhik, after falling drone debris, according to the Krasnodar region operational headquarters. Four of the dead were children. Russia's children's rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, confirmed the toll, calling it renewed aggression by Ukraine and saying that four children had died so far.
She said three more children remained hospitalized, one of whom had undergone surgery, while two others with shrapnel wounds were being examined. The total number of people injured in the Arkhipo-Osipovka drone attack now stands at 58, she said.
Russia's presidential human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, said she was in contact with the Krasnodar region's human rights commissioner, Sergei Myshak, and would provide all necessary assistance to those affected. She said her office was recording all facts and evidence related to this and similar crimes by the Kyiv government, and that the world needed to know the truth.
Strike near playground in Belgorod region
In Belgorod region, a Ukrainian drone struck near a playground, killing a 13-year-old girl. Acting regional governor Alexander Shuvaev offered condolences to the girl's parents. Two other girls, aged seven and nine, were hospitalized after the Ukrainian strike; Lvova-Belova said they suffered multiple shrapnel wounds.
