Russian stand-up comedian Viktor Komarov has revealed that he suffered an epileptic seizure caused by excessive drinking during an interview with blogger Andrey Predelin.
The interview, released on the online video platform VK Video, detailed Komarov's struggle with alcohol dependency and the severe health crisis that forced him to change his drinking habits.
Komarov described alcohol as an enemy that he has so far managed to defeat, referencing the common phrase that there are no former alcoholics. He admitted that while he was never a severe binge drinker, he realized he had a problem when every night of drinking ended in a memory blackout where he could not recall returning home.
The comedian explained that his heavy alcohol consumption began early in his career after joining the cast of the show Stand Up on the TNT television network and embarking on nationwide concert tours. Following the epileptic seizure triggered by his drinking, Komarov stated that he stopped drinking hard liquor entirely and now only permits himself beer in strictly limited amounts.

Medical research shows that heavy alcohol consumption can trigger seizures by altering neurotransmitter levels and lowering the brain's electrical threshold. Seizures linked to alcohol misuse can occur during periods of heavy binge drinking or during subsequent withdrawal phases, posing significant health risks to individuals without previous neurological conditions.

Komarov is not the first Russian online figure to discuss struggles with alcohol dependency publicly. Popular Russian blogger Stas Vasilyev, widely known by his online channel name "Ai, kak prosto!", previously revealed that prescribed antidepressants helped him overcome his alcohol addiction after he received treatment for an anxiety disorder.
