Peruvian model Viviana Rivasplata said she was displeased after television host Gisela Valcárcel wrote about infidelity she suffered during her marriage to former footballer Roberto Martínez, adding that the same man had also been unfaithful to her when they were together.
In her new book, titled "El poder de ser tú" (The Power of Being You), Valcárcel described the infidelity she experienced during her marriage without directly naming those involved, according to the report. The renewed attention on the episode prompted Rivasplata to speak out, even though she said she no longer pays attention to that period of her life.
Rivasplata addresses the claims on 'Q' Bochinche'
Rivasplata discussed the matter on the podcast 'Q' Bochinche', where she was asked about the impact of Valcárcel's revelations resurfacing after so many years. She expressed discomfort with the renewed attention and pointed to Martínez as the person responsible for the infidelities that affected both women.
She said that, honestly, it was not pleasant, and that while people's feelings deserved to be validated, three decades had passed and each woman had moved on with her life. She added that she, too, had been deceived at the time, and that the same person had deceived them both, something she said needed to be made clear.
Rivasplata was emphatic that she never took part in an infidelity and said she has distanced herself from that period. She said that on her part there was never any game being played, and that this was what bothered her. She pointed out that a lot of time has passed, that she has her children and her husband, and that she has been in a relationship for 17 years, having built her life going forward. She added that she has since sat down to talk with Valcárcel and has even danced on her show.
Three versions of what happened
The model said there are three versions of what took place between Valcárcel, Martínez and herself. She described one as belonging to Martínez, which only he would know, another as her own, which she called totally transparent, and a third belonging to Valcárcel, which she said was equally valid because both women had been made to suffer in some way.
Rivasplata repeated that she was uncomfortable with the story resurfacing, saying that people were bringing back a topic with no basis, and that it was unpleasant for her and for Valcárcel alike because one person, in some way, had played with both of them at different times without either of them knowing.
How the relationship with Martínez began
Rivasplata said her relationship with Martínez began only after he had already divorced Valcárcel. She acknowledged, however, that he had started pursuing her while he was still going through his separation from the presenter, who is popularly known as "Señito."
She said her relationship was always clear, involving a man who had already signed his divorce papers, but explained that he had pursued her in different places while separated, and that the two eventually gave themselves a chance and got married. She said that marriage ultimately left her disappointed as well, since he was unfaithful to her too.
Who is involved
Valcárcel is one of Peru's most prominent television personalities, long associated with hosting popular entertainment programs, while Martínez is a former Peruvian professional footballer. Rivasplata is a Peruvian model and former beauty pageant contestant who has previously faced public accusations of having come between Valcárcel and Martínez during their marriage.
