Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, has been banned from the WTA tour for four years after refusing an unannounced anti-doping test at her home on December 3, 2025.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) published its full ruling on July 31, including private messages the Czech player sent in the minutes after the incident. Those messages directly contradicted her defence.
Vondrousova had argued she was uncertain about the identity and authority of the anti-doping official. But messages she sent to her partner, Andrew Paulson, that same evening showed she had immediately recognised the visit as a doping test, describing the official with an expletive ringing at her door.
The tribunal also treated as incriminating two messages she sent to her agent, in which she indicated the official had left and described the situation as completely wild.
According to the judges, Vondrousova’s objection was to the timing of the test rather than the legitimacy of the official, and she had refused because she believed the regulations were on her side.
An Instagram story she published to defend herself, in which she said the matter was not about avoiding tests but about respect, also backfired. The tribunal said it confirmed she knew a test had been requested and had deliberately chosen not to submit to it.
Vondrousova has never tested positive for a banned substance.
