Reese Witherspoon has shared photographs from the filming of the final scene of "The Morning Show" on social media.
The 50-year-old actress and producer posted an Instagram carousel she captioned as moments from their last scene on the show. One particularly emotional photo shows her embracing Jennifer Aniston during filming of the Apple TV+ production, while another shows the two women in an embrace with Mark Duplass, who plays their executive producer, Chip Black.
A few weeks earlier, Apple TV+ confirmed that the show's upcoming fifth season, which has won an Emmy, would also be its last. Witherspoon and Aniston will return as morning news show hosts Alexandra "Alex" Levy and Bradley Jackson, characters who are constantly put to the test.
What Witherspoon and Aniston said about the ending
Witherspoon said that the past nine years, during which she has produced and starred in "The Morning Show," have been the greatest honor of her life. She said the show was never just about a newsroom, but about why the newsroom matters, about press freedom and about journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great personal cost. She added that telling this story has been the greatest creative privilege of her career.
Aniston, who serves as executive producer of "The Morning Show" alongside Witherspoon, praised the show's ability to tell stories that reflect what is happening in the world around us, with a touch of dark humor.
Aniston said it had been an enormous privilege to work with such an incredibly talented cast and with the show's excellent writers, producers and crew. She said they had truly become a family and that everyone was very excited to share this final season. She added that knowing from the start that this would be their last season gave them the chance to shape the ending with deliberate intention and to honor these characters the way they deserve.
"The Morning Show" reunited Witherspoon and Aniston on screen for the first time in more than a decade. Witherspoon had previously played Rachel Green's younger sister in two episodes of "Friends" in 2000.
