Russian singer and composer Yuri Loza has stated that the potential cancellation of American rapper Kanye West's concert in Saint Petersburg would not be a major loss for audiences in Russia.
Speaking to the Russian news outlet aif.ru, Loza argued that the vast majority of people in the country are unfamiliar with the musician's catalogue. He suggested that anyone asking pedestrians on the street about the hip-hop star would likely receive shrugs of confusion rather than recognition.
The veteran musician added that fans who had intended to purchase tickets to the show should see if they can sing even a single melody written by the performer.
Loza, best known as the creator of the popular 1980s hit song Plot, described West as a talker from America and said he does not share the public excitement surrounding the rapper's material. He explained that his own musical standards prioritize strong lyrics and clear melodies over elaborate visual effects, adding that there is nothing to listen to at West's live shows and that watching visual displays is something he can easily do on television.
Disputed venue announcement
Reports that West was scheduled to perform in Saint Petersburg in October first surfaced on August 17, when the event was officially announced across social media channels belonging to the Gazprom Arena.
However, just one week after the initial announcement, a new post appeared on the venue's official pages clarifying that no formal agreements had been reached with the organizers of the proposed event.

Loza is a prominent figure in Soviet and Russian pop music who earned widespread national fame with his acoustic ballad Plot, translated as The Raft.
