Achilleas Beos filed a lawsuit against match referees Thanassis Tzilos and Polychronis at Volos court on Wednesday morning over illegal betting allegations.
The Volos mayor named both officials as the primary contributors to what he described as a crime committed during a recent match between NPS Volos and AEK Athens at Panthessaliko Stadium.
Beos confirmed that he submitted an extrajudicial notice to the Hellenic Football Federation requesting that both referees be removed from official lists until the matter is fully investigated. He stated that allowing the officials to continue officiating while the investigation is ongoing would make federation officials participants in a major offense.
Legal action and prosecutor request
Speaking outside the courthouse on Wednesday, Beos stated that he was fulfilling a prior announcement to act against a crime committed against Greek football and the city of Volos. He singled out Tzilos and Polychronis, asserting that recent revelations and match events confirmed their involvement in illegal betting activities.
In his lawsuit, Beos cited clear intent on the part of the referees and formally requested that the case file be forwarded to both the Supreme Court of Greece and the public prosecutor specializing in illegal betting. He emphasized that referees under active scrutiny should not be permitted to dictate the fortunes and histories of football clubs.

Following the conclusion of that match, Beos publicly denounced the officiating as a slaughter of his team and claimed that millions of euros had been wagered on an away win for AEK.
