AEK Athens are closing in on the signing of Hungarian international midfielder Milan Vitalis, 24, from Győr ETO, according to Hungarian sports outlet Nemzeti Sport.
A dressing-room dispute at the Hungarian club appears to have opened the door for the deal. During Győr’s Conference League second qualifying round home leg against Luxembourg side Ataert Bissen, coach Efrain Juarez had a heated argument with Vitalis at halftime after substituting him. The pair clashed again after the final whistle, with the Mexican coach reportedly declaring that Vitalis would not play again while he remained in charge of the team.
Győr won the tie 7-3 on aggregate but drew 1-1 at home and delivered a poor first-half performance, which is said to have fueled the tension in the dressing room.
Nemzeti Sport reported that Vitalis could soon become a teammate of fellow Hungarian international Barnabas Varga at AEK Athens, with negotiations described as very close to a conclusion.
