Amancio Ortega, the founder and principal shareholder of Inditex, has acquired a residential apartment complex in London for 150 million pounds (175 million euros) through his investment arm Pontegadea.

The residential property is located on Baker Street in the Marylebone neighborhood of central London. The purchase marks the Spanish investment firm's first entry into the build-to-rent housing market in the United Kingdom.

Industry news outlet Green Street News first reported the transaction, which sources familiar with the deal subsequently confirmed to news agency Europa Press.

The acquisition was completed in February. Spanish newspaper Expansión reported that Pontegadea established a new UK subsidiary for the purchase and funded the transaction using an intragroup loan.

London and United Kingdom property holdings

London has become one of Ortega's preferred investment locations, with nearly 15 property assets in the city valued at a combined total of more than 4.2 billion euros, according to calculations by Europa Press.

Pontegadea functions as the private investment vehicle for Ortega, managing profits and dividends from his majority stake in Inditex, the multinational fashion retailer that owns global brands such as Zara. The firm focuses on acquiring commercial and residential real estate assets, alongside investments in energy infrastructure.

The broader UK market represents a major focus for Pontegadea. According to annual accounts filed with the official UK business registry, British subsidiary Pontegadea UK LTD held real estate assets valued at 2,654.5 million pounds (approximately 3,160 million euros) in 2025, an increase of 10.8 percent from the previous year.

The corporate filings show that the company's investment properties were valued at 2,700.3 million pounds (3,158 million euros) as of December 31, 2025, representing a 12.8 percent annual rise.

International deals in Australia, France and Portugal

The London housing transaction follows a series of major international investments executed by Ortega's vehicle across global markets.

In Australia, Pontegadea recently completed the acquisition of logistics holding company Qube in partnership with a consortium led by financial services firm Macquarie. The transaction, completed on Friday, valued Qube at 11.7 billion Australian dollars (7,165.94 million euros).

In France, the firm expanded its European portfolio at the end of July by purchasing the Capital 8 office complex in Paris for 850 million euros. The deal stands as the largest single office transaction recorded in continental Europe since 2022.

Pontegadea also reached an agreement at the end of last week to sell its 13.7 percent stake in Portuguese power grid operator Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) to the Portuguese state. The divestment involves transferring 91.7 million shares to state holding company Parpública.
