Banco Caribe has expanded its banking subagent network across the Dominican Republic to more than 2,000 affiliated commercial establishments following a strategic alliance with Punto Azul. The partnership allows customers of the Santo Domingo-headquartered financial institution to complete routine transactions locally without visiting a traditional bank branch.
Through participating retail businesses distributed nationwide, Banco Caribe clients can make credit card payments, loan payments, and cash deposits. Customers need only present a personal identification document or their product number to process transactions quickly and securely.

Customer-focused expansion strategy
Edgar Del Toro, executive president of Banco Caribe, said the alliance reflects the institution's vision of customer-centered banking that expands access to financial services and evolves according to public needs. He noted that the bank aims to be increasingly present wherever its clients require assistance by providing convenient transactional alternatives across all regions of the country.
Banco Caribe is a major commercial bank in the Dominican Republic, offering retail, corporate, and personal financial services nationwide. Banking subagents, known in Spanish as subagentes bancarios, are retail establishments authorized under Dominican financial regulations to execute basic banking operations on behalf of licensed financial institutions. By utilizing existing retail stores, corner shops, and pharmacies, banks can extend service continuity beyond standard business hours and reach communities without dedicated physical branches.
Multibank subagent framework
The new subagent arrangement operates through Punto Azul, a multibank network created by GCS Systems and payment provider Azul. Azul serves as the merchant acquiring brand of Servicios Digitales Popular. Both GCS Systems and Servicios Digitales Popular operate under Grupo Popular, the parent holding company of Banco Popular Dominicano and one of the largest financial service groups in the Caribbean region.
Under the Punto Azul multibank model, a single affiliated merchant can process transactions for multiple financial institutions from the same terminal. This shared infrastructure increases choices for consumers while enabling small business owners who host subagent points to expand their commercial service offerings. National coverage through the network brings core banking services into communities where physical branch density and access to alternative banking channels have historically been limited.
Community financial access and economic impact
Eugene A. Rault Grullón, executive vice president of Servicios Digitales Popular, stated that Punto Azul focuses on delivering practical and accessible solutions directly to local communities. He explained that facilitating access to basic banking services allows more individuals to integrate into the formal financial system, helping to reduce economic barriers, broaden financial opportunities, and strengthen overall economic well-being for both residents and local businesses.
With the integration complete, Banco Caribe aims to reinforce service coverage and continuity across all regions of the Caribbean nation. The alliance forms part of the bank's broader service ecosystem, which connects physical branches, digital channels, and alternative access points under a single operational strategy designed to make customer banking simpler and more accessible.
