Bayern Munich scored five second-half goals to defeat Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt 5-0 at home in their opening Champions League league phase match on Thursday, September 10.
In the evening's other fixture featuring German opposition, European debutants Como of Italy produced a commanding performance to defeat RB Leipzig 4-1 in Lombardy.
The Champions League is UEFA's premier club tournament, featuring top teams from across Europe competing in an expanded league phase. Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, who have won the last two editions of the competition, lead the standings after the first round of matches, with Bayern Munich positioned right behind them.
Bayern Munich break through after goalless first half
German champions Bayern Munich pressed forward from the kickoff under head coach Vincent Kompany. In the sixth minute, Luis Diaz flicked the ball inside the penalty area, but Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin made the save to prevent an early goal.
Scoring chances were hard to come by for the remainder of the first half as the visiting Norwegian team set a high bar for the hosts. Bayern created their first major threat in the 36th minute when Joshua Kimmich hit the post, leaving the teams level at 0-0 at the break.
The home side established full control early in the second half, opening the scoring in the 47th minute when Jamal Musiala turned in a pass from Harry Kane. Bayern doubled their lead in the 61st minute as Michael Olise delivered a precise cross for Kane to score, before Alphonso Davies added a third goal in the 73rd minute with a powerful strike from distance.
Olise dominated the closing minutes of the contest, scoring Bayern's fourth goal with a long-range strike before netting again in the final seconds of match action to seal the 5-0 victory.
Como defeat RB Leipzig in European debut
Italian side Como showed no fear in their first ever European competition match, taking the lead against German club RB Leipzig in the 15th minute through Martin Baturina. Head coach Cesc Fabregas saw his team extend their advantage in the 38th minute when goalscorer Baturina turned provider, assisting Anastasios Douvikas for Como's second goal.
Como maintained their momentum after the interval, extending their advantage to 3-0 in the 54th minute when Nico Paz set up Assane Diao. RB Leipzig answered four minutes later through Marko Maksimovic, but it proved to be their only goal of the match.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Maximo Perrone converted after another assist from Paz to complete the 4-1 win for the Italian hosts.
The opening-day victories leave Bayern Munich right behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League standings, while debutants Como sit among the top sides following the first round of fixtures.
