Ukrainian technology company BlueBird Tech has launched the domestic production of antennas for FPV drones and communications systems in Ukraine.
The manufacturing rollout covers equipment for unmanned aerial vehicles, mobile signal repeaters, and ground control stations. The company introduced two distinct antenna models, named the Clover 3.5-4.5 GHz and the PCB VeeDip 1.2 GHz, both designed and produced within Ukraine.
BlueBird Tech stated that expanding its internal production capabilities is intended to provide the Ukrainian military and local UAV builders with domestically manufactured components for radio systems.
First-person view (FPV) drones are unmanned aircraft controlled by pilots using live camera feeds streamed directly to video headsets or ground monitors. They are widely used for reconnaissance and targeted strikes, making reliable radio frequency links essential for maintaining control and receiving video amidst battlefield electronic interference.
Clover omnidirectional antenna specifications
The Clover 3.5-4.5 GHz model is a compact omnidirectional antenna featuring circular polarization. It is engineered to operate across the 3.5 to 4.5 GHz frequency band, with a signal receiving capability extending from 3.0 to 4.9 GHz.
Weighing approximately 30 grams, the Clover antenna can be installed on FPV drones to transmit video feeds or utilized within UAV detection hardware. BlueBird Tech has priced the Clover antenna at 600 hryvnias.
Omnidirectional antennas radiate and capture radio signals uniformly in all horizontal directions, helping maintain connection stability between an aircraft and an operator. Circular polarization helps prevent signal degradation caused by physical obstacles and keeps video streams steady as a drone turns, rolls, or changes pitch during flight maneuvers. Passive UAV detection systems also rely on wide-spectrum reception to spot incoming enemy drones by monitoring radio frequencies.
PCB VeeDip lightweight antenna specifications
The second newly launched model, the PCB VeeDip 1.2 GHz, operates on frequencies ranging from 1150 to 1300 MHz. Designed for high portability, the unit weighs 11 grams and costs 336 hryvnias.
Thanks to its compact dimensions, the PCB VeeDip can be mounted directly onto drones, mobile signal repeaters, or ground control stations. The antenna handles video transmissions, telemetry data, and flight control signals.
Telemetry allows drone operators to monitor critical flight metrics in real time, including battery levels, altitude, and GPS coordinates. Signal repeaters act as intermediate transceivers that relay radio signals over long distances or around natural terrain obstacles that would otherwise block direct line-of-sight communication.
Expanding tactical technology production
The antenna rollout expands BlueBird Tech's growing portfolio of field equipment manufactured in Ukraine. The company previously launched the production of Chipa net throwers, which feature an effective operational range of up to 25 metres for capturing small aerial targets.
BlueBird Tech also offers its Genera-1200 charging stations for rental. Portable power stations are regularly used by military units in field environments to recharge drone batteries, communication gear, and electronic equipment during operations.
