Isaac Okoh won the heavyweight boxing gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and promptly extended a cheeky invitation to Prince William to join him in the ring.
“If he wants a pad session, tell him to call me. But the fee is quite high!” Okoh said after defeating Welshman Connor Williams in the heavyweight final.
The Prince and Princess of Wales had spent the morning watching netball rather than the boxing. Okoh said he hoped William might one day come to watch him fight, adding that the atmosphere at the venue had been great all week.
Okoh was one of three English boxers to claim gold within two hours during the first session of the day. Sacha Hickey and Patris Mughalzai also topped the podium. All three train together in Sheffield.
Okoh, who said he considers himself one of the best in the world at 90kg, set his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He said he has been on a strong run of form since September of last year and is building toward a professional career.
“You’re going to see us back at the top of the podium again,” he said. “Hopefully one day you’ll see us on posters, buying our pay per views.”
