Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda won silver in the women's 100 metres final at the European Athletics Championships on Monday, missing gold by just 0.02 seconds.
Britain's Amy Hunt won the race in 11.00 seconds. Swoboda crossed the line in 11.02 seconds, having led the race from the 60-metre mark until Hunt overtook her in the final ten metres. Belgium's Delphine Nkansa took bronze in 11.06 seconds.
Semifinal results
Swoboda posted the third-fastest semifinal time of 11.04 seconds, behind only Hunt (10.99) and Geraldine di Tizio-Frey (11.02). Fellow Pole Kryscina Cimanouska did not advance to the final, finishing last in her semifinal heat in 11.44 seconds, ahead of only Ireland's Ciara Neville (11.57).
Swoboda's reaction
Swoboda congratulated Hunt immediately after the race and broke down in tears. Speaking to TVP Sport, she said it was the best feeling in the world and that she finally felt she had returned to the level she held before Rome. It is Poland's first medal of this year's European Athletics Championships.
