French health authorities confirmed a case of Andes strain hantavirus on Thursday, Aug. 6, involving a tourist who traveled through France. The French Ministry of Health announced that health officials were notified of the case on national territory, with the specific Andes strain subsequently confirmed by the National Reference Center.
The patient transited through France during the second half of July and is currently isolated in Spain alongside family members. Health officials noted that the patient no longer shows any symptoms of the virus. In response, the Ministry of Health stated that all management measures have been put in place to care for the patient and trace every stage of their travel itinerary. Additionally, the ministry convened a panel of scientific experts on Thursday afternoon to establish the appropriate course of action.
