France will allow physiotherapists to carry out free “prevention check-ups” from October, the Health Ministry announced on Sunday.
The 30-minute sessions are already offered by doctors, midwives, nurses and pharmacists. Introduced in 2024, they are designed to detect vulnerabilities such as eating disorders, addictive behaviors and mental health issues.
A decree published in the official gazette states that a diagnosis is established during the appointment, centered on priority themes identified as most pressing, with an action plan drawn up for lifestyle changes. The sessions are covered by the national health insurance scheme.
Eligibility is limited to four age brackets: 18 to 25, 45 to 50, 60 to 65, and 70 to 75.
The Health Ministry said physiotherapists have recognized expertise in physical activity, prevention of loss of autonomy, musculoskeletal health and health promotion, and that their participation would strengthen access to the scheme.
