Giannis Konstantelias has completed a transfer from PAOK to Borussia Dortmund after the two clubs finalized a record deal in Germany. The Greek attacking midfielder leaves PAOK after 12 years with the club to join the Bundesliga side.
Konstantelias passed his medical and ergometric tests at Dortmund's training center early in the afternoon on Sunday. He signed a four-year contract with the German club, with a formal announcement expected from both teams on Monday morning.
The total value of the deal reaches 32 million euros, making it the most expensive sale in PAOK history. Dortmund will pay a fixed fee of 26 million euros alongside 6 million euros in add-ons. PAOK also secured a 17.5 percent sell-on clause for any future transfer.
Konstantelias will earn approximately 13 million euros over the course of his four-year agreement. Reports from Germany state that he will receive an annual salary of 3 million euros, with an additional 1.5 million euro bonus included during his stay at Borussia Dortmund.
Transfer Negotiations and Player Loans
Negotiations concluded late on Sunday evening after PAOK sought to address roster vacancies created by player departures. Swedish forward Alexander Jeremejeff also bade farewell to PAOK on Sunday, prompting the Greek club to request loan players from Dortmund as part of the negotiations.
PAOK requested a loan move for 17-year-old Greek-diaspora player Christos Kostoglou. Kostoglou began his youth career at Daniel Batista's academy in Greece before moving to Germany in 2017. He joined Dortmund at age 14, progressing through the club's development squads while choosing to represent the Greece national team over Germany.
The Greek club also asked for 18-year-old Italian attacking midfielder Samuele Inacio on loan. Inacio moved to Dortmund two years ago from Italian side Atalanta in Bergamo and is regarded as one of the German club's top prospects.
Club Record Sale and Previous Transfer History
The transfer breaks the previous sales record held by 18-year-old striker Stefanos Tzimas, who moved to Brighton via Nuremberg for roughly 22 million euros last summer. Tzimas held the club record for approximately 14 months before Konstantelias surpassed it with his 32 million euro move.
The completion of the deal ends speculation for PAOK supporters, who had hoped for a turn of events similar to the summer of 2025. During that transfer window, Konstantelias came close to joining German club VfB Stuttgart before the proposed move collapsed.
PAOK, officially known as Panessalonikios Athlitikos Omilos Konstantinoupoliton and nicknamed Dikefalos after its double-headed eagle emblem, is based in Thessaloniki and plays in the top flight of Greek football. Borussia Dortmund is one of the leading clubs in Germany's Bundesliga, playing its home matches in North Rhine-Westphalia.
