Giannis Konstantelias meets new Borussia Dortmund squad

Greek midfielder Giannis Konstantelias has met his new Borussia Dortmund teammates and coaching staff for the first time at the club's training center in Westphalia.

The 23-year-old former PAOK player arrived at the German team's training facility with a wide smile and a positive mood as he began working with the squad.

Among the highlights of his first day was an affectionate greeting from fellow Greek player Konstantinos Karetsas, who also recently joined Borussia Dortmund. Video footage released by the club showed Karetsas embrace Konstantelias warmly upon his arrival.

Karetsas said he was delighted that his friend had arrived in Germany, describing Konstantelias as one of his best friends. He added that having him at Dortmund would be great and expressed confidence that the two would work well together on the pitch.

Meeting the manager

Konstantelias also spoke with Borussia Dortmund's new head coach, Niko Kovac. During their introduction, the German-Croatian manager asked the 23-year-old whether he preferred to be called Giannis or Gianni.

Konstantelias explained that he preferred the name Ntalias, telling Kovac that the moniker is derived from his family name, Konstantelias.

The smiling midfielder went on to introduce himself to most of his new squad members, who gave him a warm welcome to the Westphalian club.

Dortmund welcome

The video capturing Konstantelias's first day was published by Borussia Dortmund following a promotional post on August 20, 2026. In that post, the club featured artwork dressing both Konstantelias and Karetsas as ancient Greek warriors ready for battle.

Konstantelias is an attacking midfielder who spent his early career with Greek Super League team PAOK in Thessaloniki before completing his move to Germany. Borussia Dortmund, based in North Rhine-Westphalia, is one of the most prominent clubs in the German Bundesliga.

Karetsas is another young Greek prospect who recently moved to Dortmund, while Kovac took charge as manager following previous coaching spells with major European clubs and the Croatian national team.
