Greece is converting dozens of former military camps into residential developments, hospitals and business parks, with investments topping €1 billion reshaping the country’s real estate market.
One of the largest active construction sites in Athens is taking shape on Mesogion Avenue, opposite the Soteria hospital. The site, roughly 19 stremmata in area, was until recently home to the Antisinetarchis Michail Plessas military camp at 211 Mesogion Avenue. Cranes, bulldozers and engineering crews are constructing a new bioclimatic building to house the central offices of DEI, the Greek state electricity company.
The former camp sits less than 150 metres from the Papagou camp, known as the Pentagon, at 227-231 Mesogion Avenue, the two installations separated by a single city block.
