Hakuna Group Music has concluded a three-week international Catholic mission in the Dominican Republic, culminating in a free worship concert in the agricultural community of Cacata in La Romana.
The closing gathering brought together local residents as well as visitors from other regions of the country and abroad for a day centered on music, prayer, and community integration.
More than 120 young missionaries from Spain, Mexico, the United States, and the Dominican Republic participated in the project. This was the second consecutive year that volunteers assembled across sugarcane-growing communities, known locally as comunidades cañeras, in the country's eastern region.
During the three-week outreach, volunteers organized dedicated programs for children, teenagers, and local families. Scheduled activities included group prayer sessions, games, songs, and integration gatherings aimed at strengthening local social bonds.
Daily routines for the participants integrated the celebration of Holy Mass and structured periods of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The overarching initiative was coordinated by the Casa Pater Foundation, a charitable organization working on social and religious outreach, with logistical and organizational support from Central Romana Corporation, the dominant agricultural and industrial employer in La Romana.
Closing Worship Concert and Chapel Installation
The final concert in Cacata featured several of Hakuna Group Music's most recognized spiritual compositions, including "Huracán", "Sencillamente", "Madre de Hakuna", and "A ti te alabo". The performing musicians were joined on stage by a choir consisting of more than 30 vocalists.
A central structural element of the event was the installation of a chapel located directly behind the main stage. The Blessed Sacrament remained exposed within the chapel throughout the entire concert, establishing a permanent space for personal prayer and spiritual reflection alongside the live musical performance.
Representatives of the music group noted that the gathering allowed volunteers to reinforce the personal bonds developed over three weeks of community work, while providing an avenue to share their Christian message with residents in the area.
Background of Hakuna Movement
Hakuna was established in Spain by Catholic priest José Pedro Manglano and has expanded its outreach among Catholic youth groups internationally. The movement combines contemporary music, prayer, community service, and shared living as key pillars of its religious work.
Beyond mission work, Hakuna Group Music has performed at major international entertainment arenas, including the WiZink Center in Madrid and the Pepsi Center in Mexico City. The organization also conducts social outreach initiatives in prisons and economically vulnerable communities.
Ongoing Community Outreach in La Romana
La Romana, situated in the southeastern Dominican Republic, is heavily defined by its historical sugar industry and surrounding agricultural settlements. Communities in these eastern rural sectors often rely on community-based social and pastoral initiatives.
The closing concert in Cacata marked the formal end of the group's second annual mission in the Dominican Republic. Organizers noted that the completion of the event leaves open the continuation of ongoing religious and community programs established alongside local families across the eastern region.
