Peruvian tennis player Ignacio Buse has reflected on his experience joining Team World as an alternate at the 2026 Laver Cup in London. The 22-year-old national number one spoke to ATP Tour about his time alongside the elite of world tennis shortly before embarking on an Asian tour.
Buse said that although he did not get the chance to compete in matches during the event, his stay in London enabled him to acquire valuable insight. He explained that watching all the fixtures and observing how the top players in the world think provided him with a major learning experience during what he described as an incredible year.
Season highlights and ATP ranking
Buse is currently experiencing the strongest season of his career. His major achievements this year include winning his first ATP 250 title at Winston-Salem and playing a decisive role in helping the Peruvian national team secure qualification for the 2027 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
Following his recent performances, Buse reached number 35 in the ATP world rankings with 1,447 points according to the latest official update. The ranking confirms his position as the top player in Peruvian tennis.
The Laver Cup is an annual indoor hard-court tournament that features a Team World squad competing against Team Europe. Organized as part of the broader ATP Tour circuit for men's professional tennis, the event brings together top performers from across the globe.
Upcoming Asian tour schedule
Following his participation with Peru in the Davis Cup, Buse packed his bags and traveled to Asia for his next series of international tournaments. He faces French player Quentin Halys on Wednesday, September 30, in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing.
His schedule in Asia and Europe continues throughout October with planned appearances at the Shanghai Masters 1000 and the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna. Buse is scheduled to finish his tournament run in November at the Paris Masters 1000.
The Davis Cup is the premier international team competition in men's tennis, administered by the International Tennis Federation. The upcoming Asian and European tour events represent some of the highest tier tournaments on the ATP Tour calendar, featuring Masters 1000 and ATP 500 level competitions.
