Jeremy Allen White plans to keep daughters off social media

Jeremy Allen White says starring in Facebook drama The Social Reckoning convinced him to keep his daughters Ezer and Dolores off social media.

Jeremy Allen White plans to keep daughters off social media

Jeremy Allen White plans to keep his young daughters off social media following his role in the dark Facebook whistleblower drama film The Social Reckoning.

The 35-year-old actor explained that working on the project heightened his concerns about the digital environment awaiting his children, seven-year-old Ezer and five-year-old Dolores, whom he shares with his ex-wife, actress Addison Timlin.

Speaking at the film's premiere in New York, White addressed questions about how the movie influenced his perspective on what children should be permitted to access online. He expressed deep concern for young people and his own daughters, noting that growing up is already difficult when children compare themselves to peers in their school and local community.

White warned that having access to social platforms on a mobile phone exposes children to the entire world. He said this constant exposure forces young users to compare themselves against everything online, leading to emotional desensitization over time.

White said parents should keep the world of young people as limited as possible for as long as possible. He emphasized that children need time to discover and form their own identities before they begin comparing themselves to others.

Concerns over digital addiction

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, White acknowledged that platforms such as Facebook and Instagram offer positive features, including educational resources and global connectivity. However, he warned that the potential for digital addiction becomes alarming when children begin using social media at a very early age.

Because of those risks, White said he intends to keep his daughters away from social media platforms for as long as he possibly can.

Strong takes over the role of Zuckerberg from Jesse Eisenberg, who previously portrayed the tech founder in the 2010 film The Social Network. The new release serves as a direct companion piece to the 2010 movie, which chronicled the creation of Facebook.

White is best known for his award-winning role as chef Carmen Carmy Berzatto in the drama series The Bear and his performance in Shameless. Strong is known for his role in Succession, while Madison recently gained acclaim for her starring performance in Anora.

The Facebook Files investigation

According to the official synopsis, the film features an original screenplay by Aaron Sorkin based on the events surrounding the Wall Street Journal investigative series titled The Facebook Files. Sorkin previously won an Academy Award for writing The Social Network.

The storyline follows the real-life account of Haugen, a young Facebook engineer who sought out Horwitz to help uncover and publish some of the social network's most closely guarded internal secrets.

Haugen's 2021 disclosures revealed internal research concerning platform algorithms, safety protocols, and the impact of social media applications on the mental health of teenagers.
